weapon insc for caster spear
I'm trying to figure out what i should use for my caster spear inscription. +5 energy is ok, but i'm also looking at HSR and HCR, I'm not sure if ether of those are really good enough to make a difference. what are your thoughts?
final result could be something like, spear with 10% HSR +5 AR, or should i just stick with +5 energy?
for shields, should i go for sheltered by faith? or try and find -5 (20%)? or would i be better off to get +10 AC vs slash/pierce or something like that?
for builds, i will probably be running a Spirit's Strenth spear build for most of PvE while i'm rolling with heroes, i tried the SY axe build, but i felt too squishy to really make good use of it, i'd rather play from range.

Aptitudes and what not can only be applied to caster weapons.
Use martials+shield for pressure/hide energy, staff/wands for casting
You should have a shield set, each with +10 VS etc AL.
Provided you are in a constant stance/enchant, they always beat out -5

to keep it simple; +5e is your only option for a caster spear inscription.
you don't REALLY need a shield set with +10 vs everything for PvE, that's just neccesary for PvP, in PvE it will help, but won't be vital and you won't really feel the difference (if you feel it at all, my opinion) until high end HM areas.
-5/20 is the most common choice and considered the mod for a ''perfect modded'' shield (-5/20, +30).
-2/ench isn't worth it imo. I always go with +10 vs fire in PvE, because the hardest hitters are usually fire ele's (char effigy's and temple guardians popping up in my mind) so that's probably your best bet. You could always go with a +1 to attribute too, but I'm a bet meh about them. Some of my friends swear by them tho. It's a matter of personal preference really!

ok, for some reason i was thinking that i could put 10% HSR/HCT into an inscribable spear, but since i can't, that makes it pretty easy.
thanks for the replies.

For a rit +5 energy is the way to go. 10% HCT isn't going to help for spirits.
You could use -5 energy to stop energy denial, but that's rare.
-2 enchanted or -5 (20%) is useless for ritualists for the most part. You get boon of creation and that's about it for enchantments. I'd opt for +10 vs fire and piercing. Cold is only a problem because of hexes and not damage; lightning tends to come in single target or 25% Armor penetration makes +10 not as useful (you're only adding +7). Earth tends to be DoT or single target. Slashing/blunt are common but in PvE you shouldn't have melee trains.

You can. Whoever said you can't is wrong. "Let Memory Live Again" = 10 HSR for martial weapons (includes spears). "Don't Think Twice" = 10 HCT for all weapons.

You can put a hct or hrt on inscription weapons like swords spears and the like as posted above its "let the memory live again" for recharge and "Don't think twice" for the cast both max at 10% like you were saying.
